Work Based Learning
NCYF's Work Based Learning program is a vocational program for 14-22 year olds who plan on entering the workforce immediatly following graduation.
Individualized education plans are tailored to the student's specific needs and interests, and all plans use hands-on strategies to engage the student and enhance learning.
Classroom activities include:
- Academics (English, Math & Biology)
- Daily living skills
- Workplace skills and pre-vocational experiences
All academics are taught at the level of student and all students are working to pass the MCAS and to graduate from high school.
Volunteer & vocational opportunities
Students in the program gain skills through volunteering with the following organizations:
- Northampton Survival Center
- Holyoke Soldiers Home
- Raising Hope Together
- Northampton Senior Center
- Salvo House (packing lunches for seniors)
Supported job site experiences are developed around the interests of the student. Some common job site placements include:
- florist shops
- hair salons
- pizza restaurants
- fitness centers
- the TCS Breakfast Bar/Snack bar and school store
- the Staff Cafe
