Kindness. Caring. Respect. Dedication. These are just some of the qualities that transform a house into a home — and a supportive family life — for the hundreds of foster children we serve at Northeast Center for Youth and Families.

NCYF works with more than 140 carefully selected foster families across Massachusetts to provide safe, stable, healthy home environments for young people. Through thoughtful, active training and support, we’ve recruited and retained many compassionate and skilled foster parents who are NCYF’s dedicated partners in positive change. As part of the foster care program, NCYF provides 24/7 availability, training, case management and clinical support. Foster parents receive $40-$75 per day, depending on the Program.

Our foster parents will tell you about the extraordinary satisfaction of opening their hearts and homes to a troubled child, and watching the transformation that comes from commitment, caring, accountability and respect.

What it takes to be a foster parent

COMMITMENT. Becoming a foster parent is not for everyone. It takes time, patience and what may feel at times like endless amounts of energy. But at NCYF, our foster parents will tell you that the benefits far outweigh the challenges: there’s nothing more gratifying than helping a troubled child turn their life around.

CONTINUITY. Home stability is the foundation on which foster kids can begin to rebuild their lives. A reliable treatment program that includes the right supports and regular therapies creates the structure so many kids crave, but lack in their current living situations.

COLLABORATION. NCYF provides foster families with training, support, respite and other necessary resources to create a successful experience for one and all. You are not in this alone.

COMPASSION. At the core of successful foster parenting is an appreciation for the complexities and suffering facing children in need… and a desire to help. Deep down, we all have more potential than we think.
