Family Support Services

Helping families to help themselves

At the heart of NCYF’s mission is making sure that families and their children with serious behavioral, emotional and mental health issues get the help necessary to succeed in their homes, schools and communities. Our Family Support Services (FSS) program provides several levels of care, from in home therapy and family stabilization to therapeutic mentoring and parent education. Part of the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI), FSS gives families valuable capacity–building strategies and coping skills – as well as confidence in their own abilities.

Our focus is on the family system: identifying and building on strengths and offering help where needed in areas such as anger management, parent education, stress reduction and interpersonal communication. FSS serves approximately 50 families at any one time, each with its own team of experienced clinicians able to provide assistance in periods of crisis and transition, as well as on an ongoing basis. Our established psychotherapeutic techniques encourage limit setting, enhance problem solving, put an end to ineffective patterns of interaction, and utilize community resources to support kids and caregivers alike and promote sustainable solutions.

FSS highlights:
