NCYF press release in response to Auditor’s report.
PRESS RELEASE
Northeast Center for Youth and Families, Inc.
August 25, 2011
The Northeast Center for Youth and Families has been in existence for thirty five years. We are committed to serving kids and families who have experienced a wide range of behavioral and emotional difficulties. We have a school which serves up to 120 students annually from many local communities, and our residential and foster care programs serve over 500 youth and families a year. In addition, we have an expressive arts program, an afterschool program and an in-home family support program.
Overall, we serve nearly a thousand kids and families annually and employ nearly 300 dedicated and skilled staff to provide these services.
NCYF is overseen by a very active Board of Directors.
Over the past two years, we cooperated fully with the Massachusetts State Auditor as that Office conducted an audit of our financial records from 2004 – 2009. When we reviewed a draft report prepared by that Office, we disagreed with many of the Auditor’s findings, and we advised the Auditor accordingly. We will review the final report that has just been issued and will pursue resolution of any outstanding issues through the avenues available to us.
During the audit process, the Auditor’s representatives made several recommendations regarding policies or practices that should be developed or changed. We worked diligently to resolve any and all policy issues when they arose, and we are pleased to say that before the audit was finished we were in total compliance with state requirements and with standards for best practices among organizations like NCYF.
It is possible that we will continue to disagree with one or more of the Auditor’s findings. In any event, we will cooperate with the Commonwealth in its prescribed process for the resolution of audits. Meanwhile, the Board and the staff of NCYF look forward to the continued provision of critical services to kids and families in furtherance of the Agency’s mission. We are grateful to the community for its support of this work.
